PCRI moves forward with "Big 11" renovations

September 27, 2012

By David Nguyen

Renovations on two out of "The Big 11" affordable Portland Community Reinvestment Initiatives, Inc (PCRI) homes have been completed, and new residents are beginning to move in.

For nearly 20 years, PCRI has reinvested in Portland’s neighborhoods, preserved their diversity and provided tools to help low-income Portland families and individuals achieve stability and self-sufficiency.

The Big 11 project is a collaboration between PCRI and the Oregon Tradeswomen.  Together they will renovate and preserve 11 affordable rental homes in Portland neighborhoods, while teaching carpentry and building skills to the women in the Oregon Tradeswomen program.

The two completed homes are in North Portland, close to parks, the Village Market, and frequent-service bus lines.  The rehabilitated homes will benefit from energy-efficient appliances and windows.

The Portland Housing Bureau is proud to be a partner with PCRI, the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the Energy Trust of Oregon to support this project.

Renovations for the other nine homes are expected to be complete by the end of this year.
