Jamison Square architect receives national recognition

October 2, 2012

By David Nguyen

Peter Walker, the visionary Architect who designed Jamison Square Park has received the prestigious Urban Land Institute's J.C. Nichols Prize for Visionaries in Urban Development.

Located between NW Johnson and Kearney, Jamison Square is a favorite destination for Portlanders - especially during the summer.  Jamison Square boasts a unique water feature which simulates a shallow tidal pool.  Water cascades from stone joints into low pools as the fountain continuously recirculates water with energy efficient pumps and motors.

The landmark square was named in honor of William Jamison, whose work helped bring the now-thriving Pearl District to life.

Architect Peter Walker's other prominent projects include the National September 11 Memorial in New York City, Millennium Park in Sydney, and Constitution Gardens on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
