Lee Kelly's Memory 99 comes to the North Park Blocks

October 18, 2012

By David Nguyen

Tomorrow, Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) will celebrate the installation of the Memory 99, a sculpture by PNCA alumnus Lee Kelly ’59.

Nick and Portland Parks & Recreation Director Mike Abbaté will join PNCA's celebration at Portland's North Park Blocks - adjacent to the future home of PNCA’s Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Center for Art and Design - this Friday at noon.

Memory 99 is one of Kelly’s best known architectural sculptures. This magnificent piece of art was created out of Cor-Ten steel that is 23 feet wide, 11 feet high, and over 6 feet in depth

The project is made possible by a grant from the Visual Arts Program of The Ford Family Foundation to help preserve public access to works of consequence by Oregon’s most significant visual artists.

Nick and PP&R are pleased to be an integral part in the acquisition and siting of this very special sculpture.

Memory 99 will be the first step in the transformation of an empty parking lot into a beautiful park for everyone to enjoy.
