Portland celebrates Native American Heritage Month
November 7, 2012
This morning, City Council honored our Native American community by reading a City proclamation recognizing Native American Heritage Month.
The proclamation was developed by Portland Parks & Recreation’s Native American Advisory Committee, which includes representatives from both local agencies and tribes. Created in 2010, the committee meets regularly to identify opportunities for partnering with and honoring the legacy of Portland's Native people and traditions.
Later today, there will also be a Ground Blessing Ceremony at the new community garden at Cully Park - the future location of the Tribal Gathering Garden.
To continue the celebration, please join us for our annual “Native American Family Day.” Native American Family Day will feature arts and crafts, a youth art exhibit, family swims, and more!
