NPR features American Winter documentary
March 26, 2013
NPR's Morning Edition featured some of the families in the HBO documentary American Winter.
American Winter premiered on HBO earlier this month to critical acclaim, and won "Best Documentary" at the Portland International Film Festival in February.
American Winter follows eight Portland families through the great recession. Many of the families considered themselves "middle-class," but because of the loss of a job or a child getting sick, these families found themselves struggling to provide the most basic needs for their families.
The film challenges stereotypes about poverty and restores the human face to families hurt by the recession.
