Everyday Heroes
April 12, 2013
On April 6, KATU News featured one of our community’s everyday heroes.
Sylvester Simmington has been volunteering for Portland Parks & Recreation for almost 30 years. He spends his time at Peninsula Park cleaning up the grounds and helping parents with young kids by being a second pair of eyes - making sure no one gets hurt or lost.
What makes Sylvester an Everyday Hero? It is more than the work he does. Rather, it’s how he does it. Rain or shine, Sylvester is there helping out. He always has a smile on his face and makes sure to check in on park staff and visitors alike. He doesn’t want anybody to feel like they were left behind.
Next time you go to Peninsula Park say “hi” to Sylvester, and thank him for the great work he does to maintain our Gold Medal parks system.
Thank you Sylvester – for 30 years of service and just getting started!
