Today, we were excited to learn that our partners at REACH Community Development received a 2013 MetLife Foundation Award for Excellence in Affordable Housing!

REACH was one of four national winners of this year’s award which focused on connecting senior housing to health care programs, supportive services, and green building standards.

The Portland Housing Bureau was proud to provide a $1.6 million loan to preserve the affordable homes in Walnut Park, as part of our 11 x 13 campaign.

In 2008, the Portland Housing Bureau launched the 11x13 campaign when we identified 11 buildings that were at risk of losing their federal subsidies by the end of 2013. With partners like REACH, 11 x 13 was a big success. We preserved the affordability of all 11 buildings -- home to more than 700 low-income older adults and people with disabilities.

"Walnut Park is a perfect example of how community partners came together to save existing affordable housing and create a sustainable asset for the neighborhood," said Dan Valliere, REACH’s CEO.
