City holds first public Utility Rate Review

March 20, 2014

Thanks to the many Portlanders who joined us last night for our first Utility Rate Review.

Last June, when Nick became Commissioner in charge of the Bureau of Environmental Services and the Portland Water Bureau, he committed to increasing transparency and opportunities for public input in bureau decisions. Last night’s Rate Review is part of fulfilling that commitment.

Community members shared thoughtful feedback and ideas about the combined 4.92% rate increase proposed by the City’s two utility bureaus. After an overview about Portland’s sewer, stormwater and water systems, community members also asked some great questions about bureau priorities and programs.

City staff will get to work transcribing the public’s questions, and responses will be posted on our website. Please check back on the left sidebar of this page after April 9.

Special thanks to Parkrose Superintendent Karen Gray and Parkrose High School for hosting us – and to Teri Pierson and Christina Albo at Resolutions Northwest for their outstanding facilitation of the meeting!

The City will hold a number of general Budget Hearings this spring. Please visit the City Budget Office website for more information.
