Celebrating older adults
April 30, 2014
Older adults are an important part of our community – and this month we celebrate them!
Today, Nick was pleased to read a Proclamation, declaring May as Older Americans Month in Portland. The nation-wide Older Americans Month started in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy. This year’s theme is Safe Today. Healthy Tomorrow. It focuses on staying healthy and active, and preventing injuries.
Nick is proud to be Council liaison to Elders in Action, a local nonprofit dedicated to creating a vibrant community of elders who are active in civic engagement.
Age-Friendly Portland, an organization unanimously supported by City Council and Elders in Action, is another great resource for older adults. Its website provides information for upcoming events, highlights community partners’ initiatives, and news articles.
