Beat the heat
May 13, 2014
With this week’s record breaking heat, are you and your family prepared to stay cool?
The Portland Water Bureau encourages the public to beat the heat with three important tips: drink lots of water, protect your skin, and stay cool.
Remember to keep hydrated. If you are exercising or playing in the sun, make sure to increase your water intake. Downtown’s iconic drinking fountains, the Benson Bubblers, can easily be found on many street corners in Southwest Portland.
Prevent sunburn with sunscreen and lip balm. Sunglasses and large brim hats are also beneficial – as is finding shade under one of Portland’s many beautiful trees in our great parks.
Cool down and splash around in Portland’s interactive fountains. Jamison Square Fountain, Teachers Fountain, and Holladay Park Fountain are all open and ready to provide you with fun relief from the heat. Just make sure not to drink the water, and be careful on slippery surfaces.
For more information about which interactive fountains are open, contact Portland Parks & Recreation.
Stay cool!
