Out & about on a Sunday afternoon
July 24, 2014
Though we have had some rain, the warmth and sun return this weekend! Here are some great ways to enjoy a sunny Sunday in our community:
The Big Float
Join Portlanders of all ages for a leisurely float on the Willamette River – yes – that Willamette. Thanks to Portland’s investment in the Bureau of Environmental Services’ “Big Pipe” projects, which prevents sewer and stormwater from overflowing into our waterways, the river’s water quality is safe for swimming in the summer!
With live music, a parade, and an after party, the Big Float is a great way to beat the heat and have fun.
Register on the Big Float’s website.

Sunday Parkways
Grab your friends or family, and your bike, blades, or walking shoes, and head over to the beautiful Northeast Neighborhood Greenways for July’s Sunday Parkways event. Stop by Woodlawn, Alberta, and Fernhill Parks for fun activities, festive music, and food!
Sunday Parkways encourages healthy, active living through a series of free events that opens the city’s largest public space – our streets – to walk, bike, roll, and more around the community. Get outside, get active, and meet your fellow Portlanders.
Learn more about the program, including a map of the event, on the Bureau of Transportation’s website.

Lents Street Fair
Venture to the Lents neighborhood in Southeast Portland for a day of international music and food!
The Lents Street Fair kicks-off with the “Founder’s Day” parade at 12:15 pm, to honor the historical and cultural diversity of the neighborhood.
After the parade, enjoy international and local rock music, taste an array of culinary delights and refreshments, shop local vendors, and view Portland’s animal celebrities, the Belmont Goats.
Street Fairs are a great way to enjoy the sun, meet our neighbors, and support local small businesses.
