The Portland Water Bureau’s senior inspector, Kate Barrett, has been a pioneer for women in construction trade since the late 1970s.
Kate was the first woman to graduate from the Carpenter’s Apprenticeship Program in Oregon!
She continued breaking glass ceilings by being the first woman carpenter to work for the City of Portland. Kate later became the first woman inspector and then first woman senior inspector for the Portland Water Bureau!
Kate has worked hard for the City of Portland for the last 27 years. As a senior inspector, she ensures that contracting companies provide quality services that meet City standards.
She experiences great satisfaction when she goes to work and sees many other women working for the Water Bureau and contracting companies.
Kate is passionate about equity. She co-founded Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc. more than a quarter of a century ago. The organization is dedicated to encouraging and promoting women’s success in trades, through education, leadership, and mentoring.
Thank you Kate, for your great work and dedication over the last 27 years!
