The Right Brain Initiative
May 12, 2015
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has just awarded The Right Brain Initiative a $30,000 grant!
A program of the Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC), The Right Brain Initiative engages young minds by integrating art in school curriculums. The program was launched in 2009, and has grown to reach over 20,000 local students in a single school year.
The grant will go towards building creative capacity for over 600 teachers and 80 teaching artists and arts organizations. This is Right Brain’s fourth grant from NEA, and its largest yet.
Right Brain not only encourages student creativity, it also has a positive effect in other subjects as well. Right Brain Schools see students averaging 6 points higher in reading scores and 9 points higher in math scores than before working with the program. English Language Learners’ scores increased the most – 10 times more after Right Brain!
