New frontiers in Jazz music were explored this weekend at Portland’s 3rd Annual Montavilla Jazz Festival.

The two-day festival, featured extraordinary local jazz musicians and some of Portland’s finest composed jazz music. The event also spotlighted emerging student artists and visiting musicians who are redefining the jazz world.

As a lover of jazz, Nick was thrilled to speak at the festival and to introduce the Executive Director of the Portland Jazz Composers’ Ensemble, Douglas Detrick. Portland’s very own jazz pianist, George Colligan, joined the ensemble in headlining both nights of the event.

The festival was hosted by the Montavilla Neighborhood Association at the Portland Metro Arts, and a portion of ticket proceeds benefit the Montavilla Schools Music Fund.
