Weekend Roundup: Susan Emmons Proclamation and Mr. Khizr Khan visits Oregon
October 24, 2016
On Saturday, Nick attended a retirement celebration for his dear friend and colleague Susan Emmons. The event was held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
Susan has served as the Executive Director of the Northwest Pilot Project since 1987. It is a mission-driven, local non-profit that helps older adults secure affordable homes and connect with critical services.
Nick read a proclamation honoring Susan’s 31 years of service, leadership and effective advocacy for affordable housing in our community.
On Sunday evening, Nick was honored to join Senator Ron Wyden, Wajdi Said and local faith and community leaders to welcome Mr. Khizr Khan to Oregon. The event was hosted by the Muslim Educational Trust in Tigard.
Mr. Khan is a Gold Star father and Muslim- American. His son, Captain Humayun Khan, gave his life to defend this nation. Mr. Khan shared his thoughts on patriotism, dignity, and reconciliation.
Nick introduced Mr. Khan and Senator Wyden. He thanked Mr. Khan for giving America an important civics lesson—and told him he and his family would always be welcome in “our Oregon.”
Mr. Khan, joined by elected officials, later handed out pocket-sized Constitutions to youth leaders of MET.
Stay tuned for Nick’s next weekend roundup.
