Last Wednesday, Nick was honored to emcee a very special evening celebrating Governor Barbara Roberts’ 80th birthday.
Governor Roberts was Oregon’s 34th Governor, and the first woman to hold the highest office in our state. She also served two terms as Oregon’s Secretary of State. She is a champion for equality and death with dignity; author of two acclaimed books; a loving mother and partner; a mentor, role model, and cherished friend.
More than 500 people gathered at Montgomery Park, where Barbara celebrated her first win in 1991, for the celebration. Guests heard tributes from people who love her – Governor Kate Brown and former Governor Theodore Kulongoski, Barbara Coombs Lee, Danny Santos, Terry Bean, and her son, Mark Sanders.
Special thanks to volunteers from Compassion and Choices and the Center for Women’s Leadership, who made the evening unforgettable. Thanks to the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus for a wonderful performance and the Portland Trail Blazers for a special presentation.
Happy 80th Governor Roberts! You continue to inspire all of us!
