Strengthening Our Volunteer Advisory Bodies

November 8, 2017

Today, Council unanimously adopted new policies and standards designed to increase the transparency, accountability, and effectiveness of our volunteer City advisory bodies.

The package adopted by Council focuses on creating uniform rules and procedures, daylighting conflicts of interest, providing consistency and clarity on the role of advisory bodies, and giving community members greater confidence in their service.

We do our best work in partnership with the community, when the people at the table have clear direction and the resources they need to be successful.

And when Council has good community input, we make better decisions.

Today’s action follows a Council hearing in May and work session in April.

Thanks to Commissioners Eudaly and Fritz for co-sponsoring this important legislation. And thanks to the City Attorney’s Office, the Office of Neighborhood Involvement, the Office of Equity and Human Rights, and the many community members who shared their expertise and perspective as we developed these reforms.
