Celebrating Portland's Gay Men's Chorus
August 21, 2018
Today, City Council proclaimed August 30th to be Portland Gay Men’s Chorus Day and was treated to a performance in Council chambers.
The Portland Gay Men’s Chorus, founded in 1980, has been an outstanding part of our city’s performing arts and LGBTQ communities. Their mission is to expand and redefine choral music through eclectic performances that honor and uplift the gay community.
The Gay Men’s Chorus also serve as arts and culture ambassadors, with performances across the nation and the world, including appearances in San Fransisco, Denver, New York City, Washington, Montreal, and Vancouver, BC.
This fall, they will become the first gay chorus to tour and perform in China, with concerts in Beijing, Xi’an, Shanghai, and our sister city, Suzhou.
Special thanks to Portland Gay Men’s Chorus Executive Director Rick Jung for speaking today – and to the Chorus for their incredible performance.
