A New Playground in the North Park Blocks
April 16, 2019
On Saturday, Nick joined community members and Parks staff in celebrating the opening of a new playground in the North Park Blocks.
The project improves safety and accessibility of the popular playground, which hadn’t been improved since 1993.
It’s one of over 50 parks that will receive upgrades as part of the 2014 Parks Replacement Bond. The new playground is the fourth to be completed under the bond, and the first on the west side.
The North Park Blocks have had a playground since 1908, making it one of the oldest playground sites in Portland.
Special thanks to the Portland voters for passing the Parks Replacement Bond, and to Commissioner Amanda Fritz for championing the bond during her tenure as Parks Commissioner; to Christian Maynard-Philipp from the Pearl District Neighborhood Association for speaking at the event; and to the community members and kids who came out to play!
