Today, Council honored Dr. James Lawson with a proclamation.

Dr. Lawson was an architect of the Civil Rights movement, a dear friend and colleague of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and a mentor to U.S. Representative John Lewis.

He was joined by a panel including Pastor J.W. Matt Hennessee of the Vancouver Ave. First Baptist Church and PSU student Carolyn Johnson-Evans.

Special thanks to Portland State University’s Conflict Resolution Program, Dr. Patricia Schechter, and PSU’s Students United for Non-Violence group for bringing Dr. Lawson to Portland.
