Volunteers and Interns

The Gateway Center for Domestic Violence Services is always welcoming new volunteers and provides internship opportunties. Please complete the PDF form on the left hand page and email it along with a resume (if you have one) to Administration at:

There are several and various positions that are available for volunteers and interns at the Gateway Center. Your preference, skills, education and experience may determine which positions you will be assigned. You may also design your own volunteer/intern position. For more detailed descriptions of the positions, please contact administration at or call us 503.988.6400 and press 0. The list below is just some of what our volunteers have done for us here.

Navigator Assistant - Supports Navigators/advocates in their roles with participants including assessment, referrals, assisting in competing forms and safety planning. Relevant work experience and/or education is preferred, but not required.

Office Assistant/Support - Assists in supporting front office responsibilities, reception and various tasks such as filing, copying, helping participants fill out basic forms. Duties may include organizing office space, purchasing supplies and hospitality work. Computer skills are required.

Child Care Specialist or Child Care Assistant- Currently looking for a volunteer licensed childcare specialist for Tuesdays during the hours of 1230 to 430 pm to supervise children for parents participating in group/class. In addition, seeking Child Care Aide to support the Center's licensed childcare facilitators.

Transportation Aide - Pick up and aide in various donations and moving requests for participants and Administration. This position requires having transportation and ability to lift and carry heavy items. 

Attorney for Civil Legal Issues - Pro-bono attorney who volunteers time to help participants fill out civil legal forms and give legal advice and/or provide supervision to law students and recent law school graduates. These positions are for licensed attorneys, but also for law students and recent law school graduates who can volunteer under attorney's supervision.

Run Group Activities - Designing activities for children/teens during office hours while parents work with Navigators and On-Site partners.

Raise Funds - Work with other volunteers or on your own on creating ideas to fundraise for the center. Solicit donations.

Hospitality Volunteer - Assists participants and children by welcoming them to the center and accompanying them to the main participant areas of the center.

Clothing Closet - Organize and sort incoming donations.

* * Note for Interns - Internships are open all year round and scheduling is quite flexible. Our Administrative Staff is familiar with many of the local colleges and university requirements needed to be filled by your school's department.

All positions require ability to pass a criminal background check.
