Karly EdwardsKarly Edwards

Karly Edwards serves as the Commissioner’s Chief of Staff. In this role Karly helps organize Team Hardesty to help bring the Commissioner’s vision to life. Karly has worked in a variety of leadership roles in the labor movement and has worked at both Portland Jobs for Justice and served as State Director for the Oregon Working Families Party. Karly also serves as a Commissioner for the Oregon Government and Ethics Commission and holds a Master’s in Union Leadership and Administration from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

One time, Karly beat the second highest score for Dr. Mario according to the record held by Twin Galaxies – unfortunately it was not recorded and submitted for an official ruling.


 

Kristin JohnsonKristin Johnson

Kristin Johnson serves as the Commissioner’s Financial Policy Advisor. Kristin’s job is to advise the Commissioner on current and future financial policies and their implications to the community and City resources. Kristin prioritizes equity and considers future financial impacts in all her analyses and policy recommendations.

Kristin has worked for the City of Portland for 10 years, with 8.5 years of progressive financial analyst experience. She has prior experience as a data analyst for the Philadelphia SchoolStat project, and served as an intern for Senator Bernie Sanders and the City Manager of Philadelphia, working on performance management. Kristin has a Master of Governmental Administration from the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania, and a BA in Political Science from Trinity University, Washington DC.

Kristin looks forward to using the knowledge she has gained in the Office of Management and Finance to continue to be a good steward of the public’s money in Commissioner Hardesty’s Office. Kristin originally hails from Vermont and loves ice hockey and singing terrible karaoke.

Derek serves as Commissioner Hardesty's Policy Director.

Before working for Commissioner Hardesty Derek spent many years working in the Oregon State Legislature. After traveling extensively he went to Lewis & Clark Law School. After graduating he clerked for Multnomah County Circuit Judge Karin Immergut. He is passionate about evidence based policy making and is always excited to have conversations with a wide variety of stakeholders on any given issue.

In his free time Derek practices Chinese Martial Arts, investigates Portland's food scene, and dreams of traveling.


 

Matt McNallyMatt McNally

Matt McNally serves as the Commissioner’s Community Outreach Coordinator. Matt’s job is to gather community input and foster grassroots support for progressive policy, as well as making sure our office is accessible and engaging Portlanders with City Hall.

Matt is an experienced progressive organizer and researcher who joins the Commissioner’s staff after serving as the Field Director for Jo Ann Hardesty’s historic campaign for Portland City Council. After becoming a first-generation graduate of Clark University in Worcester, MA (Bachelor of Arts in Political Science), he served as legislative intern at Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon. Matt’s work experience includes political research, working across the county on the Bernie 2016 Presidential campaign, and statewide organizing with the Oregon AFL-CIO.

When not organizing, Matt is usually listening to music from home, attending a concert, hiking Oregon’s beautiful landscape, or cheering on the Portland Timbers.


 

Lokyee AuLokyee Au

Lokyee serves as the Commissioner’s Communications Coordinator. Lokyee’s job is to both communicate with the media and to help community members effectively share their stories with the commissioner and her colleagues. Originally from Los Angeles, California, Lokyee is a second generation Chinese American, whose roots go back to Hong Kong. She's a first-generation college graduate, having received two masters degrees from the University of Oregon: Environmental Studies and Community and Regional Planning. Since then, she's served in organizations that connect her interest and knowledge in policy, communications, and social justice, including Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods (NECN) and Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon (APANO).

She lives with her partner and their three-legged dog, Thumper. In their spare time, Lokyee enjoys crafting, Star Trek, animal videos, wildflowers, baking, and reading pop culture hot takes.

R. Lyne Martin-Modica brings with her many years of government experience. Lyne has worked for former County Chair Gladys McCoy, Beverly Stein and County Commissioner’s Maria Rojo de Steffey and Dan Saltzman. Lyne's daily task will be keeping Commissioner Hardesty on time and on schedule and plans to do so with ease, confidence and a sense of humor.

Lyne enjoys reading, traveling and cooking for family and friends.


 

Angelita MorilloAngelita Morillo

Angelita serves as an Administrative Assistant for Commissioner Hardesty. She is the first face you will see in the office or voice you will hear calling our office. Angelita brings a compassionate lense to Portland politics. Her family moved from Paraguay when she was four years old. Being the daughter of immigrants greatly impacted Angelita’s desire to work within political and activist circles, even at a young age. She served as captain of her high school Constitution Team and later went on to study Political Science at Portland State University. In her spare time she likes to kickbox and play with her cats.
