Attorney Permission for Complainant Interview
If a complainant notifies IPR that they are represented by legal counsel in a matter related to the incident for which they wish to file a complaint, IPR will notify the complainant’s attorney in writing to request permission to talk to their client prior to an interview taking place.
The IPR Investigator will ask the complainant, as soon as practicable, whether they are represented by an attorney. If the complainant is represented, the IPR Investigator may collect their contact information and basic incident information (such as date, time, location, and officer name) before ending the initial contact with the complainant.
