July 9, 2013 | OPB.com-- Portland’s historic Vista Bridge will soon have a nine-foot screen erected along its sides to prevent people from jumping off.
City commissioner Steve Novick says there have been three suicides from the Vista Bridge in 2013.
Novick announced Tuesday that he’ll be using emergency authority to spend about $236,000 on a temporary suicide-prevention screen.
He says state historic preservation staff are talking to the city about a long-term fix.
