Portland Building Reconstruction Project Update
Construction Update: July 2018
The Portland Building was buzzing with activity this month. The seismic upgrades continue to progress with crews installing a carbon fiber reinforced polymer wrap on the columns in the basement. The wrap increases the strength of the columns as the new shear walls are installed throughout the building. Shear wall installation on level two has been completed and there are various levels of completion on levels three through six. The contractor will follow this step process throughout the building until the shear wall is complete. (Find construction photos here!)
The exterior is starting to look a rather bare. Windows and the keystone tile were removed from the west elevation along with the pergola and columns on the patio at level 14. Curtainwall demolition on the east elevation is complete and approximately 50% complete on the south elevation. Crews have begun the installation of anchors for the new unitized curtain wall to support the exterior improvements which will be taking shape later this year.
Interior demolition was completed on schedule this month. Crews finished the elevator lobbies on the upper floors as well as and the mechanical rooms in the penthouse and all of level 13.
Now we get to start the best part of this project – rebuilding a functional, accessible and beautiful building for the City of Portland. Don’t forget – we want you to be involved in the process. The design team introduced some great ideas for getting employees involved in the shared spaces this month which you will be hearing about in the near future. Also your Individual Bureau Workgroup members are working hard to finalize your workspaces. The changes are going to provide opportunities for group collaborating as well as spaces for quiet time when you need it. Stay tuned!
