Construction Update: March 2019
The Portland Building Reconstruction project reached a significant milestone this month: Crews placed the last of the shotcrete for the new shear wall on Friday March 29th. This officially completes the seismic upgrades!
Installation of Concrete Masonry Unit (CMU) walls in the basement has been completed on the east side of building where the parking garage ramp used to be. The CMU walls create facilities support spaces as well as the new service elevator shaft. Steel beams are now being installed above the area in preparation for the pouring of a new slab on grade for the first floor, replacing the old raised platform.
The interior build-out continues to progress steadily. The fourth floor is in final preparations for laying carpet. Tile and toilets have been installed in restrooms on the fifth floor. Floors six through twelve are in varying phases of improvements as well.
On the exterior, installation of curtain wall panels on the east and south façades are tracking on schedule. Completion is expected in April. The replacement of the capitals on the west and east and ribbon details on the north and south will take place a little later in the project. A mock-up of the terra cotta tile for the first three floors has been reviewed by the project team. DLR Group and Howard S. Wright are finalizing standards with the manufacturer and installation is expected to begin soon.
