Crime Prevention Trainings

Crime Prevention Coordinators can provide in-person training for your group on a variety of crime prevention topics. Each topic requires at least 15 minutes to cover, but can take as long as an hour for an in-depth discussion. One approach is to combine several topics together in one training for brief coverage of each. All of our training topics and material can be found at https://www.portlandoregon.gov/oni/76205. Some of our prevention topics for residential and commercial training include:

Prevention Training Topics (Residential)

  • Bicycle theft
  • Burglary
  • Residential CPTED
  • Car prowl
  • Car theft
  • Identity theft
  • Package theft
  • Recognizing & responding to illegal activity

Prevention Training Topics (Commercial)

  • Burglary
  • Car prowl
  • Car theft
  • Workplace CPTED
  • Holiday shopping crime prevention strategies
  • Shoplift prevention
  • Recognizing & responding to illegal activity

Trainings can be tailored for your specific group’s needs. Training must occur within the Portland city limits; coordinators request a minimum of ten participants. Trainings are designed for the understanding and maturity of adults and older teens. Trainings are usually scheduled 4 to 6 weeks in advance. If your group is interested in a topic we don’t offer (e.g. traffic safety or emergency preparedness), we may be able to make a referral to a local trainer who does offer the topic.
