Neighborhood Watch

The Neighborhood Watch Program strengthens neighborhoods by bringing people together to create a shared vision of community safety. This program teaches community members to:

  • Communicate regularly using tools specific to Neighborhood Watch;
  • Recognize and report suspicious activity;
  • Increase home and vehicle security;
  • Increase personal safety of residents; and
  • Make neighborhoods less attractive to criminals.

In a business district or a large office building where other topics such as shoplifting and robbery prevention, dealing with challenging people, workplace violence prevention, and money handling security may be a concern, a Business Watch may be useful. Business Watch participants develop a communication system through an e-mail network to share information about potential problems and keep in touch with other local businesses.

Neighbors or businesses interested in organizing a Neighborhood Watch should read our brochure on Establishing Your Neighborhood Watch, and contact Crime Prevention Coordinator Mark Wells at 503-823-2781 or
