Administration & List of Allowable Accommodations

    Here are a few examples of the types of allowable accommodations:

    • Disability access, including ASL or captioning large print, braille, recordings, audio description, adobe for virtual access etc. 
    • translation of approved documents
    • simultaneous translation at approved programs or events
    • purchase of translation equipment
    • public transportation to and from approved programs or events
    • child care costs and/or supplies for approved programs or events
    • difference in cost, for rental of accessible spaces for programs/events from other location previously booked that is inaccessible
    • personal aide, when necessary to attend ONI program or event, or partner agency program or event
    • equipment necessary to access ONI program or event, or partner agency program or event
    • other approved accommodations may be made

    Definition of reasonable accommodations.

    "Reasonable accommodations eligible for reimbursement" means:

    1. reasonable accommodations provided to participants in any Office of Neighborhood Program provided directly by ONI;
    2. reasonable accommodations for Office of Neighborhood Involvement CBO partner agencies; or
    3. reasonable accommodations for Neighborhood Coalition Offices, or Neighborhood Associations.

    Reimbursement for making reasonable accommodation.

     

    1. The Office of Neighborhood Involvement shall reimburse any program, agency, office or association as outlined above for expenses incurred in making reasonable accommodations eligible for reimbursement to the extent that funds are available in the FY 17-18 accommodation account.
    2. Reimbursements must be requested prior to May 15th, 2018 to be eligible.
    3. Eligible expenses can be dated from July 1, 2017 through June 30th, 2018.
    4. Each quarter, ONI will make $25,000 available for organizations to request reimbursements throughout the fiscal year.  Adjustments will be made per need demonstrated through submissions.

    Accommodation account established.

    The accommodation account was approved by City Council as part of the Mayor’s proposed budget on June 08, 2017 as an account administered by the Office of Neighborhood involvement for providing ample accommodations in efforts to make ONI programs, partner agencies and organizational programs more accessible.

    TYPES OF ALLOWABLE ACCOMMODATIONS

    i)      translation of approved documents

    ii)     simultaneous interpretation at approved programs or events

    iii)   purchase of interpretation equipment

    iv)   public transportation to and from approved programs or events

    v)     child care costs and/or supplies for approved programs or events

    vi)   difference in cost, for rental of accessible spaces for programs/events from other location previously booked that is inaccessible

    vii)  personal aide, when necessary to attend ONI program or event, or partner agency program or event

    viii) equipment necessary to access ONI program or event, or partner agency program or event

    ix)   other approved accommodations may be made

    NOT ALLOWABLE

    This fund not meant to fulfill all accommodation expenses, or used in lieu of fulfilling legally required accommodations by other City bureaus or agencies.  Workplace accommodations, capital improvement projects, or personal accommodations are not eligible to use this fund.
