Liquor Licensing Specialist Theresa Marchetti says:
From August of 2009 to February of 2010, board members of the Laurelhurst Neighborhood Association demonstrated an outstanding ability to go above and beyond their responsibilities to research, collaborate, and problem solve the livability issues and concerns related to a location that was applying for a liquor license.
The establishment applying for the license had a history of problems that invoked fear in many nearby residents. Acting in the best interest of the neighbors, the Neighborhood Association worked diligently to ensure that as many safeguards were in effect as possible. The efforts of the Neighborhood Association were instrumental in assuring several restrictions were placed on the license. These restrictions reflected solutions to the concerns of the neighborhood, and provide an avenue for recourse if there is a negative impact on the neighborhood.
The Laurelhurst Neighborhood Association’s proactive behavior is an illustration of the most fundamental philosophies of crime prevention, and we thank them for their dedication and persistence when it comes to neighborhood safety concerns.
