PBOT seeks new members for Transportation System Plan advisory body
The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is accepting applications through April 10, 2015, for additional community members to serve on the Transportation System Plan (TSP) Expert Group. This advisory group is convened jointly by the Transportation Bureau and Planning and Sustainability Bureau as a component of the Portland Comprehensive Plan Update.
PBOT is looking to add six members that represent one of each of the following areas: Persons with Disabilities, Equity Interests, Youth, Public Health (community member or agency representative), Transit Advocacy, and Small Business Owner.

Oregon Relay hosts Mini Taste of Technology and Resource Fair at ILR
A free conference will showcase the latest advancements in assistive technology and services for people with disabilities on April 17 from 11 am to 2 pm at Independent Living Resources, 1839 NE Couch Street in Portland
The Mini Taste of Technology and Resource Fair is hosted by Oregon Relay and offers a great opportunity for professionals and agencies working with clients who have various types of special needs for daily living. Target audiences are people with disabilities and their caregivers, service providers, government agencies and technology companies. Professionals and users alike may network and share their experiences in using current and new technology available at this conference.

TriMet proposing Honored Citizen Fare increase, wants public input
Honored Citizen tickets and monthly passes will be increased by TriMet in a proposal to be effective September 1, 2015. The agency is looking to increase the cost of Honored Citizen tickets from $1 to $1.25 and monthly passes from $26 to $28.
TriMet is conducting Listening Sessions on April 6 from 3 to 4 pm at the Pioneer Center in Oregon City, 615 5th Street, and on April 8 from 1:30 to 2:30 pm at Urban League of Portland’s Multicultural Senior Center, 5325 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Bouelvard. Public comments may be offered at the April 22 and May 27 TriMet Board of Directors meetings in the Portland Building Auditorium, 1150 SW 5th Avenue at 9 am. OHSU Cochlear Implant Research Study needs volunteers for study
People are invited to participate in a research study at the Lina Reiss’s Cochlear Implant and Hearing Aid Research Laboratory in the Department of Otolaryngology at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU).
This National Institutes of Health-funded research project is aimed to increase the knowledge for how to improve listening with cochlear implants and hearing aids. Participants must meet the subject criteria of:
- Adults (>17 years old)
- Have bilateral cochlear implants from (Cochlear or MED-EL)
In this particular study, the center is studying how sounds are combined from two cochlear implant, and how this might explain some of the variability observed in bilateral cochlear implant users. Participants will be asked to listen to sounds and words, responding by pressing the appropriate button on a computer touch screen. The time needed to complete the study is a total of eight to 12 hours, divided into two to four sessions (2 to 4 hours/session). In addition, participants will receive $25 per hour for their time and compensation for travel mileage and parking.

Free housing design and construction training is April 21st
Fair Housing Accessibility FIRST and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Portland FHEO Field Office will present a free Design & Construction training on April 21, 2015, at the Edith Green-Wendell Wyatt Federal Building, Conference Room 1A/B, .1220 SW Third Avenue, Portland.
The training will be held from 8:00 am to 4:15 pm and includes the following training modules:
- Design & Construction Requirements of the Fair Housing Act, Technical Overview - Module 10
- Accessible Routes - Module 7
- Accessible Public & Common-Use Space - Module 8

DRO hiring a full-time Advocate, application deadline is April 20th
Disability Rights Oregon (DRO) is currently looking to hire a full-time Advocate position. This position focuses on clients served through DRO’s Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness (PAIMI) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) programs, and may also include clients in other DRO programs.
The successful candidate will provide direct advocacy for individuals with legal issues related to their disability, with a focus on individuals with mental illness and traumatic brain injury. . The full position announcement may be found at: http://www.droregon.org/about-us/employment.

Incight presents its 8th Tapping Fresh Talent Career Expo on April 23rd
The 2015 Tapping Fresh Talent Career Expo will be on April 23 from 10 am to 2 pm at the Oregon Convention Center. Incight, the U.S. Forest Service and EID Passport are hosting the eighth Tapping Fresh Talent event to link employers with the skills and talents of Oregonians with disabilities and to grow inclusion with businesses needing those talents.
The career inclusion expo is the place for businesses to expand their diversity, interact with the fastest growing minority, improve their retention, recruit job seekers with disabilities, find interns and more. Workshops are scheduled for job seekers in self-empowerment, networking and resume review. More information for businesses and attendees is at the Tapping Fresh Talent website.
