Muslim Educational Trust and New Portlander Programs gathered US Congresswoman Bonamici,
Portland and Hillsboro’s mayors, City and County Commissioners, faith and ethnic communities,
to mourn two brave and beautiful Portlanders, murdered while defending two teenagers from a
man raging against Muslims, one day earlier. MUSLIMS UNITE FOR PORTLAND HEROES has to date
raised $460,000 as an expression of reverence and affection for these victims’ families.

Reception begins at 4pm, including traditional and contemporary Latin American music by composer, producer, teacher, and community-builder Gerardo Calderon. Lively food and traditional beverages by Horn of Africa, Revolucion Coffee House, and Minh Le Bakery.

The 25-member New Portlander Policy Commission was established by City Ordinance May 6, 2016, to research then recommend to City Council international migrant integration policies and best-practices that support newcomer community social, entrepreneurial, and spiritual capital; that mitigate against newcomer community disintegration; and effectively facilitate community organization/municipal government partnerships that increase Portland's capacity as an American gateway city.
