SW Yamhill-Morrison Sewer Repair Project: Construction continues

SW Yamhill-Morrison Sewer Repair Project: Construction continues

Environmental Services is continuing work to repair public sewer pipes in SW Yamhill and SW Morrison Streets in downtown Portland. Repairs to the 100 to 140-year-old sewer pipes will protect the public and the environment by reducing the possibility of sewage releases to buildings and streets.

Sewer repairs will take place now through October 2017. A map of pipe work locations is available on the project webpage at www.portlandoregon.gov/bes/y-m.

WHAT’S NEXT

This past spring, Environmental Services completed downtown public sewer repairs to coordinate with TriMet's MAX Improvement Project. TriMet's project gave us a rare chance to repair about 3,200 feet of underground sewer pipes that cannot be accessed while tracks are in service. We have more work to do to ensure a high quality infrastructure.

Several project areas were identified as high risk, where crews were not able to safely bypass sewage flows from adjacent properties to repair the public sewer in the street this past spring. The three-week light rail closure wasn't enough time to complete that challenging work. Environmental Services will be back in contact with those properties to discuss and plan repairs to take place this fall.

Now through October, you may see crews working in and around buildings downtown, as well as along streets and sidewalks within the project area. These ongoing repairs will not affect light rail service, but they may create traffic delays and require temporary on-street parking removal in work zones.

Minor project-related repairs left over from the work completed in May, such as sidewalk restoration, brick restoration in intersections, and some cleanup are continuing.

Downtown Open for Business
