Alder Pump Station Upgrade Project: Construction update

Alder Pump Station Upgrade Project: Construction update

On-site mobilization continues on the Alder Pump Station site at SE Water Avenue and SE Alder Street. Upgrades to the pump station will improve reliability and increase pumping capacity, which will help prevent sewage releases into buildings and streets and combined sewage and stormwater overflows to the Willamette River.

For a map of the location, visit the project webpage at www.portlandoregon.gov/bes/alderps.

SCHEDULE

Construction will continue for up to two years. The project will go through several phases. Typical work hours will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with construction the same hours on Saturday as needed.

DEVELOPMENTS OF NOTE AND UPCOMING ACTIVITIES

The city’s contractor continues to prepare the Alder Pump Station site for construction. Crews have installed interior fencing for the equipment staging area.

The next two months will focus on the following activities:

  • Put up on-site construction office for contractor project management.
  • Create and post project signage.
  • Install erosion control measures.
  • Investigate site to verify conditions.
  • Obtain necessary on-street parking permits for truck unloading zones.
  • Clear work site of debris and prepare it for construction.
  • Coordinate with Portland General Electric for temporary power source.
  • Install bypass pumping system to ensure continued sewer service throughout the project.

TRAFFIC CONTROLS

Different phases of this project may require different traffic controls as upgrades on the site and frontage improvements in the public right-of-way are completed. Access to private driveways will be maintained at all times. On-street parking will be removed in the work zone for truck unloading.
