Powell Sewer Repair Project Construction Update: September 14, 2017
Environmental Services is continuing construction on the Powell Sewer Repair Project in your neighborhood. This project will replace and repair aging public sewer pipe ranging from 60 to 104 years old. Repairing and replacing aging sewer pipes protects water quality, public health and the environment.
DEVELOPMENTS OF NOTE
For the next three weeks, crews are scheduled to work Saturdays on SE Francis Street between SE 58th and SE 62nd avenues.
The map posted at www.portlandoregon.gov/bes/powell show the anticipated construction schedule and a look ahead schedule through September 30, 2017. Areas on the map marked in gray are currently not on the schedule or are not completed. Construction schedules are subject to change due to underground conditions, weather, traffic impacts, subcontractor schedules and availability of materials.
TRENCH PAVING SCHEDULE CHALLENGES: DID YOU KNOW?
The contractor patches trenches with temporary pavement after completing pipe installation in all work areas. We know that several streets in your neighborhood have had temporary paving, which can be rough and uneven, for an extended period.
Periods of inactivity ranging from a few weeks to a few months are common between completing repairs and final trench paving for a variety of reasons, but are most commonly due to paving subcontractor availability issues and weather.
Our contractor will be working to secure paving crews during dry weather and will take advantage of unexpected openings in paving crew schedules to complete work as timely as possible. Residents should expect that work may begin on short notice, and street closures may last for up to a week where concrete is poured.
