Cannon Beach now providing beach wheelchairs,
becomes third community on Oregon Coast
Like Manzanita and Seaside, Cannon Beach is the third community to offer special beach wheelchairs for people with mobility issues. The program has started in October and the city is providing them for free.
The idea has been worked on for several years with the Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce and the Haystack Rock Awareness Program purchasing the first beach accessible wheelchairs that have four to five inch-wide tires to roll on top of the sand.
The goal is to have wheelchairs at Tolovana State Park and at the Gower Street beach entrances available to the public. Deming Designs is a possible manufacturer to provide the accessible beach wheelchairs. More information about the Cannon Beach wheelchair program is available on the Daily Astorian website.
Supporters of the program are happy to see Cannon Beach be providing the service and hope to bring up the issue at the Travel Oregon level so everyone is able to experience the Oregon Coastline.
