Alder Pump Station Upgrade Project: Construction update
Pre-construction activities continue on the Alder Pump Station site at SE Water Avenue and SE Alder Street. Upgrades to the pump station will improve reliability and increase pumping capacity, which will help prevent sewage releases into buildings and streets and combined sewage and stormwater overflows to the Willamette River.
For a map of the location, visit the project webpage at www.portlandoregon.gov/bes/alderps.
The project will continue for up to two years and will go through several phases. Typical work hours will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with construction the same hours on Saturday as needed.
DEVELOPMENTS OF NOTE AND UPCOMING ACTIVITIES
The city’s contractor continues to prepare the Alder Pump Station site for construction.
This month (October 2017) is focusing on the following activities:
- Clear work site of debris and prepare it for construction.
- Coordinate with PGE to plan and install a temporary power source.
- Install and test bypass pumping system to ensure continued sewer service throughout the project. During construction, combined sewer and stormwater flows will be diverted to other parts of the sewer system.
Different phases of this project may require different traffic controls as upgrades on the site and frontage improvements in the public right-of-way are completed. Access to private driveways will be maintained at all times. On-street parking will be removed in the work zone for truck unloading.
