When PP&R evaluates the use of different IPM control methods, we take into account many factors, including health and safety issues, environmental concerns, plant health requirements, and land management needs. This results in choosing the most sensible overall strategy for a given problem. Our state-licensed employees monitor levels of pests to determine whether a pest needs to be controlled. Well-implemented IPM provides Portland's citizens with safe, healthy, efficiently run, and attractive parks.
PP&R has also worked with state and federal agencies such as the Oregon Department of Agriculture and the National Marine Fisheries Service in developing and refining our program. These efforts combine to provide assurance that our IPM practices are sufficiently protective of people and the environment.
