The lower roof, added to the gymnasium with the facility expansion in 1956, was no longer shedding water and was not performing as required for current state energy code. Water ponding on the roof led to leaks and maintenance problems during extreme weather. The HVAC units were beyond their service life and are inadequate to the demands of the space (which are amplified by the lack of roofing insulation).
This project replaced the existing lower roof and HVAC units to improve the service of the building. It also added critical worker safety protections and re-worked the drainage system to facilitate maintenance.
