Trail Closures and Delays

Please see Portland Parks & Recreation's Inclement Weather Policy for additional closure information during extreme weather.

This page was updated on November 15, 2017, at 4:00pm

Please use caution when using trails!
Be aware that rain and high water can leave trails and roads a bit of a mess with hazards like downed trees, landslides, and flooding. Portland Parks & Recreation addresses weather related impacts as soon as resources allow, but may not be able to respond immediately or forecast where the next hazard will occur. Please use extra caution on trails and roads!

Columbia Slough Trail
Work on a lagoon reconstruction project located at the Columbia Blvd Wastewater Treatment Plant will take place November 2011-2018. During construction, the Columbia Slough Trail will be intermittently closed. Trail users can detour to Columbia Boulevard south of the plant and the trail segment east of the plant. The city posts signs and maintains a recorded hotline (503-823-1993) to advise trail users of periodic closures during the lagoon reconstruction project. For more information, please visit the BES Lagoon Reconstruction and Trail Closure Alert.

Forest Park

  • Wildwood Trail is closed from Pittock Drive to Pittock Mansion due to landslide. Trail users should use Pittock Drive to bypass the closure.
  • Bridge Repairs - as part of the 2014 Parks Replacement Bond, trail closures due to bridge repairs on Maple and Wildwood Trails are scheduled through November 2017. Read more information here.

Marshall Park - Foley-Balmer Natural Area
The bridge across Tryon Creek in the Foley-Balmer Natural Area has been removed due to structural concerns. To detour, please use SW Broadleaf Drive to connect SW Lancaster Road and SW 18th Pl or SW Maplecrest Drive. Please follow the recommended detour. Crossing the creek is unsafe and causes streambank erosion and damage to riparian vegetation.

Springwater Trail - near SE Telford Road and 262nd Avenue

The Johnson Creek Watershed Council, in partnership with Portland Parks & Recreation, is improving fish passage under the Springwater Trail by replacing a culvert under the Springwater Trail near Damascus.

This section of trail is open, but is under construction and may have uneven or unpaved surfaces. For your safety, please use caution, especially when traveling on SE Telford Road during construction. When traveling against the flow of traffic on the detour, we recommend that bikers dismount and walk bikes. Please contact Chuck Lobdell at the Johnson Creek Watershed Council by email at chuck@jcwc.org or call 503-652-7477 x104 with any questions or concerns.

Please see Portland Parks & Recreation's Inclement Weather Policy for additional closure information during extreme weather.
