Race and Ethnicity Project
Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) is adopting a new approach to better understand who currently uses our services. PP&R programs and facilities are now collecting race/ethnicity information from all customers who register for camps, classes, and/or purchase passes to our facilities.
We will update your account in our registration system to include race/ethnicity data. You will be asked to provide information regarding your race/ethnicity through a one-time question that will be asked during a future program or pass registration when registering at our desk or over the phone. You are always welcome to stop by our front desk at any time to update your account.
We are collecting this information so that we can track how we are doing serving the various racial and ethnic groups living in Portland. Collecting this information is the first step towards assessing our performance at serving all populations residing in the city.
As we move forward in this process, we will compare the information we receive with the most recent National Census (2010) and annual Portland Public School (PPS) statistics. Because we will use the Census and PPS as two of the tools by which to measure ourselves, we will align the questions asked regarding race and ethnicity by using the racial and ethnic groups already identified as established populations by these agencies.
If you have questions at any time during this process please contact us.
Thank you for your help as we work to increase our understanding of the communities we serve.
