Nature Birthday Parties

Celebrate birthdays - nature style!

Our smart and silly EE naturalists will spend one or two hours with your child and their friends (ages 3-10) and help bring the wonders of nature to life! Our staff are versatile and creative and love to have fun out in nature. We can meet your birthday party group at your favorite park or natural area (or we can suggest one for you that makes sense!)

How do I schedule a birthday party?
Arranging a program takes time. Please allow at least one month for coordination. Unfortunately, due to our extensive summer programming, we are unable to provide birthday parties in in June, July and August.

  1. Choose between a Ladybug Walk Birthday (ages 3-6) or a Nature-themed party (ages 5-10) - Details below!
  2. Download the Birthday Party Application: PRINTABLE VERSION  -  FILLABLE VERSION (Save it first, then fill it out!)
  3. If you have questions, please call our office at 503-823-3601 or email enviroed@portlandoregon.gov.
  4. Fill in the form and SAVE AS: "Your full Name_Birthday Party Application.pdf"
  5. Attach the saved form in an email to enviroed@portlandoregon.gov
  6. Once we have your application, we will schedule naturalists to lead the party and will create & send a contract to you.
  7. Sign and return the contract with partial (or full) payment to secure the date(s).

Parties for 3-6 year olds

Schedule a private Ladybug Walk with our naturalists! Children spend a half hour doing a craft (we'll help decide what makes sense) and then everyone does a Ladybug Nature Walk for about an hour. For the walk, each child gets to borrow a Ladybug Backpack that is filled with a few simple yet fun tools (spoons for digging, magnifying lenses for exploring, bug boxes, and tubs for holding stuff!) Parties are scheduled Labor Day - Memorial Day between the hours of 10am and 4pm. (Sorry - because of our full summer schedule, we are unable to accommodate birthday parties in June, July, and August.

Need more information about private Ladybug Walks? Check out the webpage and see what it's like!

Choose a Theme

  • Fairies and Wizards - Do you believe in forest magic? Activities include fairy dolls, building fairy houses, creating wizard staffs and/or nature potion.
  • On the Wing - Learn about birds and their habitats. Activities include bird language introduction, bird hike, bird craft, and/or owl pellet dissection (4 week advanced notice required)
  • Exoskeleton Extravaganza - Learn about insects, spiders, and isopods. Activities include an introduction to arthropods and how to tell them apart, hunting with magnifying lenses and bug boxes for little creatures in the forest, an insect or spider craft, and/or insect and spider racing.
  • Creative Creatures - Ignite your imagination using materials from the forest! Activities are highly imaginative, using simple props that we bring along. Some examples include animal puppets, nature kitchen tools, a pretend tea party, ivy costumes, and pretending to be squirrels. We’ll work with you to come up with the right props to bring along to match the theme of your party!

Please note that if you would like to have a picnic area or shelter reserved for food and fun after your nature hike, you will need to make that reservation with the Customer Service Center at 503-823-2525, then option 1.
