How to enter the Wedding Reservation Lottery

PP&R will once again be holding a lottery for 2019 wedding locations and dates. The wedding lottery will establish a list of who will be contacted first to receive their desired wedding date and location in Portland's parks and natural areas. You can participate in the lottery to try and secure your favorite location and date, or wait until after January 1, 2019 and place your reservation online.

  • Monday, November 19 - We will begin taking wedding lottery requests at 8:00am
  • Thursday, December 13 - We will stop accepting wedding requests into the lottery at 5:00pm.
  • Friday, December 14 - The drawing for the wedding lottery will take place at 10:00am - held live on Facebook.
  • Monday, December 17 - PP&R will begin processing lottery requests beginning at 8:00am
  • Wednesday, January 2 - PP&R Customer Service Center opens for general wedding requests for 2019

Why is PP&R using a wedding lottery system?

In October 2017, the Customer Service Center moved due to extensive repairs on the Portland Building. This new, smaller location was not able to accommodate the traditional wedding day reservation line, so a lottery system was determined to be the best way to accommodate wedding hopefuls. PP&R held its first ever wedding lottery in 2017 with positive results and has decided to continue with this system.

How the lottery will work:

The wedding lottery will be open Monday, November 19 at 8:00am through Thursday, December 13 at 5:00pm.

Applicants will need to submit a wedding reservation request to enter the lottery. In the request, they will need to provide basic contact information, provide preferred location/date information, and pay a $117 non-refundable application fee. All complete requests will be entered into the lottery.

Entry into the lottery does not guarantee reservation of the requested location(s) or date(s). However, staff will do their best to find a suitable alternative if necessary.

The wedding lottery is only for wedding events taking place March 1, 2019 through December 31, 2019. To book wedding events taking place January or February 2019, customers need to call the Customer Service Center starting October 1, 2018; reservations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.

Only one entry per couple is allowed. Duplicates will be removed without refund.

Once submitted, customers will receive an email confirmation which will list their reservation request number. Online submissions will also receive a follow-up phone call to confirm reservation request details. At that time, customers can ask about annual events or maintenance closures that may impact availability of their requested location(s); a list of currently booked public events will also available on the website.

Once the lottery closes, the reservation requests will be drawn at random and assigned a ranking. Customer Service Center representatives will process each request in the order it was drawn until all have been addressed. Staff will call the applicant at time of processing to confirm booking details. Once a request has been processed, the reserved location and date will be posted on our website. All requests will be processed by January 1, 2019. Reservation requests submitted through the lottery will be charged 2018 wedding fees.

Customers who do not participate in the wedding lottery can book their wedding events on a first-come, first-serve basis starting January 2, 2019 by calling the Customer Service Center. Reservations requested after January 1, 2019 will be charged the 2019 rates.

To sign up for the lottery:

  • Contact us by phone at 503-823-2525, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm.
  • Visit us at the Customer Service Center at 111 SW Columbia Street, Suite 660, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.
  • Reservation requests will require basic contact information, location/date request information, and payment of a $117 non-refundable application fee. All      complete requests will be entered into the lottery – maximum one entry per couple. Once submitted, you will receive a unique reservation request number which will be used in the lottery drawing to determine ranking
  • Review this list for unavailable booking dates by location - make sure you don't pick these dates!

Lottery drawing information:

The lottery drawing will take place Friday, December 14 starting at 10:00am. You can follow the lottery drawing on Facebook! If you wish to attend the drawing, you can certainly do so. The drawing location is currently TBD, but will be posted on this page as soon as the details are finalized.

Reservation request numbers will be placed in a large bowl and then drawn one at a time. Each number drawn will be assigned a lottery ranking.

The lottery rankings will be posted here on this website and on Facebook.

How reservation requests will be processed: Customer Service Center staff will start processing reservation requests in the order they were drawn starting Monday, December 17 at 8:00am. When it is time for your request to be processed, staff will contact you on the primary phone number provided. If they are unable to reach you, they will leave a voicemail (if possible) and call the second phone number. If they are still unable to reach you, they will contact the individual you designated using the third phone number - it is extremely important for you to provide reliable contact information, as this designated individual will be authorized to make reservation decisions on your behalf. If staff are unable to reach you, they will wait two hours before processing the next reservation request. If you call back after the two-hour hold has passed, your request will be processed immediately.

You can follow our progress and your ranking on our website; once a request has been processed, the reserved location and date will be posted on our website. All requests will be processed by January 1, 2019. Reservation requests submitted through the lottery will be charged 2018 wedding fees.

Wedding reservations requested after January 1, 2019:

If you do not wish to participate in the wedding lottery, you can book your wedding event by calling the Customer Service Center starting January 2, 2019 at 8:30am. Reservations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that all lottery participants will have already secured their reservations, and new 2019 fees will apply.
