Thank you for your interest in volunteering to keep Portland's natural area parks healthy, beautiful, and safe for people and wildlife! 

Here are a few tips to get you ready for your next stewardship event.

  • While most stewardship events do not require an RSVP, please check the description to make sure that advanced registration is not required.
  • PP&R staff or the partner group liaison will be on site to greet you and will provide gloves, tools, training for the day's activity, and a snack to keep you going. 
  • In order to ensure your comfort and safety, please remember to dress for the weather, wear close-toed shoes, bring a water bottle, and be ready to get dirty!
  • Unless otherwise noted, all events are family friendly and all ages are welcome to participate. However, children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult for the duration of the event.
  • While groups are welcome to join many of our regularly scheduled stewardship events, please contact the event coordinator listed in the description before arriving with a large group. This will ensure that there are enough gloves and tools for everyone to work. We are also available to schedule special service events at your group's convenience during the week or on weekends. Learn more about programs for groups.

Description

Join Portland Parks & Recreation, Friends of trees, Friends of the Columbia Children's Arboretum and Portland OIC,  with support from the Port of Portland, East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District, Metro, and the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation to restore a part of one of NE Portland's "hidden gems": the Columbia Children's Arboretum. We will be planting hundreds of native trees and shrubs and removing invasive species including Himalayan Blackberry and English Ivy -- and your help is what makes this community planting possibleRSVPs kindly requested.

Please arrive by 8:45am to sign-in and enjoy some breakfast treats and coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. The planting starts promptly at 9:00am. We provide gloves, tools, and guidance, so all you need to do is show up dressed for the weather and wearing sturdy shoes or boots – and be ready to have fun!

How do I register? All individuals and groups are kindly asked to RSVP to save your spot(s) by filling out the Friends of Trees quick Registration Form, or emailing or calling Yoko (yoko.silk@portlandoregon.gov; 503-278-1341). Registration is highly recommended but not required.

Under age 18? A signed Friends of Trees youth waiver is required for you to volunteer. We ask that youth 15 years and younger are accompanied by an adult.
