Portland Parks & Recreation: A Sustainable Future. City Council work session on Tuesday, November 26, 2019

POSTED NOVEMBER 21, 2019

(Portland, OR) –

Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) is committed to long-term financial sustainability and to continuing to provide quality services to all Portlanders. Over the last several months, the bureau has been exploring future service levels and potential new funding models. We have:

  • Convened an Alternative Funding Task Force of community stakeholders to consider possible new funding options
  • Engaged research partners such as the Trust for Public Land and Portland State University’s Northwest Economic Research Center
  • Brought together experts from across the City and our bureau to explore which funding sources could support our mission and the community’s expectations

PP&R will share the findings of this important research at a City Council Work Session on November 26, 2019, 9:30am-11:30am. The work session is viewable via live stream and on TV channel 30.

The purpose of the work session is to brief City Council on Portland Parks & Recreation’s work and to get Council’s preliminary feedback about potential next steps. Based on this initial feedback, PP&R will work with the community, the Portland Parks Board (a volunteer advisory body), and Portland City Council to identify a path to financial sustainability and a more equitable parks system for all.
