Physical Means
Soil covering mulches and other physical barriers are used throughout parks to suppress weeds. There are more than 2.2 million square feet of developed shrub bed plantings in our parks, and all receive an organic mulch application on a regular basis to suppress weeds and improve the health of the soil.
Many structures and features in our parks are surrounded by pavement pads to eliminate the need to control vegetation. Pathways are surfaced with various materials to provide not only a good walking surface, but to help keep them free of encroaching weeds.
