A BEECN (short for Basic Earthquake Emergency Communication Node) is a place to go in Portland after a major earthquake to ask for emergency assistance if phone service is down, or report severe damage or injury. Click on the links below to learn more about BEECNs, find a site near you and get prepared for an earthquake.
BEECN Training (online) Monday, May 3rd, 2021, 6-7:30 pm.
This free, 90-minute training will introduce participants to the BEECN system. Learn where BEECNs are located, how they are set up, how to connect with other volunteers and deploy BEECNs in the case of a large earthquake that takes down phone lines. We'll review supplies in BEECN caches, learn how volunteers and the City's Emergency Coordination Center play a role during disasters and we'll check out the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management's website. Participants will also learn how to sign up to become a BEECN volunteer (which you will be potentially eligible to do after this training - though there is no expectation that you will become a volunteer unless you want to). PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME. Trainer may not give you credit for the class if you are late.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. If this link takes you to an actual Zoom meeting waiting to begin, that means you have already registered. Come back May on 3rd.
• This will be an online Zoom training. Participants must be able to view trainer's screen online (no audio-only participants).
• This training will not be recorded to post online; I’m working on a do-it-yourself/when-you-want -to-do-it online BEECN training.
• Make sure the Zoom software works on your computer or tablet before the training begins; our office cannot provide tech support.
• Be sure to check your spam or junk email folder for one post-training follow up email.
