During a civil disturbance in NE Portland today - and at the request of the Portland Police Bureau - the Bureau of Emergency Communications (BOEC) activated the City's community emergency notification system operated by private vendor First Call.

The activation was a success, sending voice alerts to a combined 296 landline and cell phones, text alerts to four cell phones and a total of six emails. All told, the delivery of these messages to a geographically targeted group of impacted neighbors took just two minutes, 46 seconds.
