More than 75 of our contractors and partners took the opportunity to network with each other and learn from industry best practices around racial equity at our Spring Equity Forum yesterday.
The event's keynote speaker was Jeannette Pai-Espinosa, a national leader with more than 30 years of experience in advocacy, education, intercultural communication, public policy, strategic communication, program development and direct service delivery. She challenged attendees to question their stereotypes and to increase equity by bringing all stakeholders, not just the usual suspects, to the table.
Other speakers included Carmen Rubio, Co-Chair of Coalition for Communities of Color, Executive Director of Latino Network and member of the Portland Housing Advisory Commissioner (PHAC); Doreen Binder, Executive Director of Transition Projects; Dan Steffey, Senior Vice President at Guardian Management; and staff from the Portland Housing Bureau.
Partners had deeper discussions about data evaluation, public engagement, economic participation, organizational development and more at several break-out sessions.
Jesse Beason, Executive Director of Proud Ground and Executive Member of PHAC, attended the forum. He said, "PHB's Equity Forum presented a valuable opportunity for all of us to learn from one another and hopefully begin conversations that will ultimately lead to lasting partnerships and better service to the folks we serve."
