Groundbreaking for New, Affordable Homes

drummerchildLifeworksPortland Housing Bureau staff joined a celebration last week for the groundbreaking of the Center for Hope & Recovery, set to open next year in Northeast Portland.

The Center for Hope & Recovery models our community’s core values of opportunity, healthy neighborhoods, sustainability and leverage – investing public dollars to leverage large private investment that makes visions like this a reality.

The Portland Housing Bureau was proud to invest $4.5 million in TIF Set-Aside in this project. This investment will create 64 new, affordable homes for households that want to live free of drugs and alcohol. The clients and graduates of Project Network will be priority residents. Project Network is a Lifeworks Northwest program that serves predominantly African-American pregnant and parenting women with addiction issues, helping them move to productive lives in recovery. Home Forward will own and operate the substance-free family housing.

Portland City Commissioner Nick Fish and Multnomah County Commissioner Loretta Smith spoke at the ceremony.

“We share a core belief that our community is stronger when everyone has a stable and affordable place to call home,” said Commissioner Fish.

Brotha Askari’s drumming set the event to a beat.
